Solid food… what can be said? Baby has moved on from strictly liquid and has stepped a tiny foot into the world of big kid food. Well… blended and soupy big kid food anyway. Figuring out what they like and don’t like only helps you as the parent further unveil your child’s personality in a way.

Some babies enjoy the sweets. All the orange foods you can find, they can’t get enough of the stuff. Carrots, sweet potatoes, squash… trust me if it’s orange they will be all over that. Don’t let that be the only thing you give them just because they smile when you put it in their mouth. We all need nutrients and a completely orange- colored diet is not going to cut it.
Sometimes you have to be mean mommy or devious daddy and give ’em the green. Spinach, asparagus, green beans, peas… all the things they don’t want but need. SUGGESTION: give them the green and baby rice but mix in a little fruit. Thank me later. It’ll be a little sweet so they’ll want to eat it but the majority is green so they’re still getting pumped with the stuff we want them to have.
My favorite brand is Beechnut (not sponsored). The only ingredients are whatever the flavor is on the container. That’s it. If the label says bananas, that’s all there is in the ingredients list and I LOVE that. They make a variety of baby vegetables, fruit, rice, oatmeal and squeeze pouches. I’ve used all of them and they’re great. I highly recommend the brand and it’s SUPER inexpensive. It’s even covered by WIC if you are on that program. (More on WIC in a later post.)
If you want to be extra extra sure of what is in the jar, you can always boil and blend everything you give baby. Takes more time, but if you have that time go for it. No shame in that game whatsoever.
Remember YOU’RE mommy. YOU’RE daddy. Don’t fight the baby at meal time. Compromise the sweet but still get what you want which is a nutrient-rich juicy little one.
YOU’RE WELCOME *In my Maui voice* haha.
