God Gave Us You – review

I like to think every parent worth their salt wants their children to know they are loved. Above all us we want our kids to know that mommy and daddy care for them just as deeply as God cares for us. We also want to impart to them the fact that God loves them too, even more than we do ourselves. Here is a wonderful book that conveys that message in a sweet and loving way.

“God Gave Us You” by Lisa Tawn Bergren is a heartwarming story about a mama bear and her cub. The baby asks mama where she came from and the mama bear goes into the story of realizing she was pregnant, preparing for baby’s arrival, praying over baby everyday and the hospital experience. She tells her story while continuously telling her baby that “God Gave Us You.”

I found the book to be an excellent reminder of not just how God gave us our children but also the Father’s love for us as well. The care and attention the mama bear gives to the baby reflects God’s love toward us as his children.

The illustrations by Laura J. Bryant are bright and happy. They go along with the story well and they give a good opportunity for parents to point out different characters and scenes happening throughout the story. I really liked how the illustrations were not always just of the bears but included other animals doing other things in the same setting. The bear angels are a favorite of mine as they rejoice with the parents after finding out they had conceived.

I believe small children and their parents would all enjoy this book as it reminds us how much God loves us. It is also a great opportunity to love on your babies as you remind them they truly are a gift from above.
