This is the first of what will be a series of weekly encouragement pieces that I feel is a nice pick me up. To my fellow first time mommies AND daddies, these are for you!
It is really easy to criticize yourself a lot harsher than others do. Concerning parenthood, that statement is more than true. Often I’ve looked at my own experience of newfound parenthood and though how much more I could do. “I need to do this, I need to do that, he needs this, why didn’t I think to bring that…” the list is endless. Well I wanted to let you know that no matter how many improvements and you think need to be made or how many times you feel you have “messed up” already, you are doing a great job.

If your baby is still smiling every morning when you drag yourself out of bed at 4am for that feeding, guess what, you’re doing a great job. If your child still stares at you with utter fascination and unconditional love, despite forgetting to pack that extra onesie, you’re doing awesome. When your kid is screaming their head off, and I mean screaming their lungs out, flailing frantically, will not be comforted by anyone else… yet they snuggle against you as soon as you get a hold of them, you’re doing fantastic.

Our houses may not be the cleanest, our beds not always made, and that’s okay. That picture up there… that’s my laptop covered in toys instead of being open and in my lap. Do I have other things I could be doing, of course! But when baby calls mommy duties take priority. So don’t be so hard on yourself. Your baby doesn’t know how to judge you. They just love and appreciate all that you do, even if you think it should be more.
Be kind to yourself.
